Happy Eggster!

Today was Easter, but among some circles - namely, my circle - today is also Eggster. Last year Sam, Chelsea, Colleen and I started the tradition of Eggster. The holiday involves cutting edge experimental egg dying techniques and "character eggs", lots of mimosas, and lots of egg puns. This year we upped the ante with about 6 or 7 more people, 2 kinds of banana bread, a pitcher of Bloody Mary, an amazing frittata, glitter, and 4 or 5 dozen eggs.

We started around 1pm and five hours later we had a carton of "Best Eggs" and a small cartons of "Worst Eggs" - and a bowl full of egg salad, which I'll be living off of for the rest of the week.

I have to brag - I won Best Egg with my Lucha Libre Egg and was personally congratulated by the Registrar of Eggster. Why is he a registrar? I don't know - he was born out of a haze of champagne last year.

Tim blowing out some eggs.

Selecting the Best and Worst required a nomination and a back-up vote.

Voting was a rigorous process and not everyone agreed on the nominees.

Abe and I took a little walk after the Eggster festivities and before Big Brother started.

Sensible Shoe Zealot

How many shoes are too many shoes?

Click above to read Meredith Blake's article on this topic in today's New York Daily News. I am quoted from the point of view of the "sensible shoe girl".

FYI - even though I have converted to wearing comfortable, sensible shoes I still own about 30 pairs of miscellaneous boots, flats, sandals, sneakers, and heels.

A Great Time for All

Thursday night we went to the Dave Hill Explosion at UCB Theater. It was one of the best shows I've seen on his and I've seen almost all of them since his first one in Siberia's basement (if you watch his "reel" you can even see me in the audience clapping back when I had my favorite haircut). His guests on this show were Amy Sedaris and Bob Mould. I freaking love Amy Sedaris so I was pretty psyched. Everyone was super funny and it was a good time. Afterwards we went to The Half King and ate a dish called Hell Fries, which were amazing. Piper ordered mac 'n cheese and it turned out to be a weird pasta dish we called "Nacho Mac 'n Cheese". It was soupy elbow noodles in a cheese sauce served with a dollop of sour cream and covered in scallions.

Surprise!

The wives of two of my friends (the "wives" are actually my friends Maria and Becca, but it's fun to call them wives) had a grand ol' surprise party for their husbands - the big 30 for both of them. Alex (one of the birthday boys) and Becca just moved to Pennsylvania so it was nice to have them back for the night. The best part was probably the abundance of Groucho Marx disguises so we could really surprise them when they walked into the room.

Melt Everything in My Mouth

Abe and I went over Chelsea and Sam's house to have a French onion soup and chocolate fondue for dessert. Good lord, everything is better melted. I was a happy camper, but my breath was toxic the next morning.
