Red-Tailed Hawk Feather

Tuesday evening I was in the backyard and noticed a large feather (approx. 20" tall) laying in the grass.

I was so excited when I picked it up and realized this feather had to have come from a large bird like a hawk. I did a little research and found out that it is an adult red-tailed hawk rectrix feather (tail flight feather).

The feather is now on display in my dining room amongst my other found Hudson Valley treasures (river glass, rocks, drift wood).

Thanks. Found a similar feather when I was taking a walk this weekend. Thanks for doing the research and sharing via your post. Happy walking!

Just found one of these in my yard today!! I see Cooper's Hawks and Red-tailed Hawks pretty regularly, but this was first time I'd ever been lucky enough to find one of their feathers :)
