DIY: Fall Foliage Mobile

I went for a hike up Mount Beacon and couldn't resist collecting a bag of vibrant autumn leaves. So I get home with my bag of leaves and realize it's just not the same when they're sitting in a plastic Target bag on my coffee table.  It's kind of like collecting shells at the beach - they're gorgeous rolling around in the waves, but when you get home there's only so much you can do with a bunch of dried out white clam shells.

Anyway, I came up with a little craft project using my leaves so I can continue enjoying the gorgeous colors.  I was also feeling like I needed to do some seasonal decorating so this project also brings into the house a little festive fall flavor.

More photos and a complete How-To after the jump.

Autumn Adventures

This weekend was full of autumn-loving fun. On Friday Abe and I drove to New Paltz and met with our wedding caterer.  They're awesome and I feel like we knocked a major task off the list.

On Saturday I went for a hike up Mount Beacon and did some leaf peeping and collecting.   Then I went home and worked on a new autumn craft how-to.  Saturday night Abe and I went to dinner and totally splurged by turning on the heat before we left the house.  When we got home it was nice and toasty inside and we promptly passed out on the couch.

On Sunday afternoon I drove to Westchester to visit friends and we took their kids (ok, ok, they actually did it for my benefit) to the Lyndhurst Castle to see the scarecrows on the lawn.  I think I read there were 500 of them made by students from area school.

New Pillows in the Shop

I added more pillows to the shop - lots of navy blue and a brand new pattern too!  I originally made this grid pattern for my zip pouches, but tried it out on a pillow one and day and realized it looked great centered in the middle of the square.

All pillows are $26 and come stuffed.  However, the pillow cover is totally removeable in case you ever have to give it a good cleaning.

Shoes. OMG. Shoes.

I realized the other day that I only have one pair of brown shoes and they're my well-worn Dansko clogs.  So now I'm on the hunt of a sensible - yet stylish - pair of shoes that are dressy enough to wear to work (and dare I wish - to wear with a dress!)  I've found a few good ones online, but now I need to try them on my Fred Flintstone feet and see what fits.

[1. Harvest Wedges, L.L. Bean; 2. Ryder, Dansko; 3. Leather Brogue, L.L. Bean Signature; 4. Rory, Dankso; 5. Heeled Penny Loafer, L.L. Bean Signature]

Shoes.  Shoes.  Let's get some shoes.

DIY: Halloween Luminaries

Luminaries are little candle lanterns made from small paper bags that line a walkway or driveway. This October you can make paper bag luminaries to add a spooky light on Halloween night. Place the glowing scary faces on your steps to illuminate the path to your door for trick-or-treaters.
