Trash Talk Thursday

My new hobby is going to be taking photos of the trash people leave out on the street. I am starting this hobby in hopes that it will satisfy my urge to dumpster dive and take items back to my home.

Today's image was taken on Eagle St. between Manhattan and McGuiness. It looked like it was once a window and then someone decorated the window with record albums and then hung it up on a wall.

Suckers on This!

Last Saturday we all headed out to Crash Mansion (aka The Peach Pit Afterdark) to see Suckers play. Suckers is the band Kenny co-manages and they are on their way to making it big. This was my first time seeing them, but won't be my last. I usually have a very low tolerance for live music (I don't like standing, so sue me) unless the band is entertaining on stage. Suckers is super duper fun to watch AND their music is pleasing to the ears.

We took the G to the L to the walking down to Bowery & Spring. This is the new favorite piece of "artwork" on the Greenpoint platform.

This just drives me insane:

The music was really, really loud at Crash Mansion. Abe communicated to Piper a la Stephen Hawkings.

Kenny and Colleen are moving in together. Adorbs.

Afterwards we went to a birthday party upstairs in the VIP room for Christina Lee. It was all white and very weird in that room... and Amstel Lights were $8. I have a feeling it is very dirty in daylight.

Lindsey, Lauren and Colleen being sassy VIPs

Ari and Jess enjoying the white furniture...and good times.

Chicken Train

You would think NYC, one of the largest cities in the world, would have good radio stations, but we don't. There are a few awesome ones...WNYC, WFMU, CBS FM, Q104, 88.9, but it's slim pickin's if you want sing-along tunes. So imagine our joy when we hit two AWESOME stations in Costa Rica: 93.9 IQ Radio and 95.5 Radio Dos. I mean, we're talking hours of serious hits - major road trip material.

Our first day in Costa Rica, when we made the 4+ hour drive to Quepos, we were at about hour #3 and stuck in traffic trying to cross a bridge. This song came on the radio and after a couple minutes we realized that we were all singing along. At the time we thought the chorus was "I'm a train, I'm a chicken train, chicken train, I'm a chicken train...". At least that's what I thought it was. For the rest of the week whenever we would go get food from Chicken on the Run I would sing this song.

So anyway, we find the video for the song on YouTube and two things:

1.) The song is by Albert Hammond... the son of my favorite Stroke, Albert Hammond Jr.

2. The lyrics are "I'm a train, I'm a chicka train..." chicka as in "chooga" or "choo choo" train. Whatever.

Out of this World

I didn't get home from the airport until 4am yesterday so I slept in real late and stayed in my pajamas for most of the day. In the evening I managed to pull on some real clothes and meet my baby girls out for some din-din (except for Dith who was actually seeing a baby girl - her niece).

We struggled all day to find something in Union Square so it would be easy for all of us and so, for once, Piper wouldn't have to cart her butt out to Brooklyn. We settled on Galaxy Global Eatery located at 15 Irving Place.

Menu and atmosphere was very weird, but the food was decent and the prices weren't too bad. FYI - the Thai'd Pizza is not pizza-like at all. It is a pita wrap. I didn't drink and spent $15. We all agreed that the restaurant is very 90's and I kept bumping into their Buddha hostess.
