Friday Thoughts

  • Got street meat from the gyro cart today. This was my first and last time. I don't even want to talk about what I tried to eat.
  • In my office we have a jar of jellybeans at the reception desk. The mailman and UPS man take some every single day. This is totally okay, but I wonder how much reception desk candy they eat in one day.
  • I somehow misplaced $600 in cash. I'm trying not to freak out too much and am 90% sure it is in my apartment somewhere. At this point I wish I just knew if I really lost it or if it was just hiding. At least it is making us give our apartment a serious scrub down.
  • Hamsters have gigantic testicles for such a small animal.

HEXA at Glasslands

Last night after ceramics class I went to see my fave band, HEXA, play at Glasslands in Williamsburg. It was a great show as usual and Abe performed his famous wedding reception style dance moves. I didn't feel very drunk last night, but today I'm feeling a solid hangover. I must have not had enough water.

Abe and Andy sharing a chair

Abe and I are babysitting Dave and Preeya's hamster, Junior, while they are in California for 2 weeks. I have always wanted a rodent - I used to save field mice after being attacked by our cat and try to nurture them back to health. They would usually die of shock. I think my love for mice and rodents (but not rodents bigger than a hamster) comes from reading the Ralph S. Mouse books like The Mouse and the Motorcycle as a kid.

You got a little sumthin on your lip, Junior!

Junior has natural hot pink highlights.

Yummo!

Abe is a really good cook. He doesn't flaunt it at all so it's very surprising, but the man is fantastic at making sandwiches and eggs. I think it is because he is very patient - I'm not and that is why a lot of the time my meals are a little questionable. Last night Abe made us chicken (that he tenderized!) on ciabatta bread with provolone cheese, mixed greens and tomato. He also made roasted french fries and a mixed green salad with dried cranberries and walnuts.

Rachael Ray isn't allowed in our house, but I think someone has been watching episodes on the sly.

This picture was taken after I had eaten most of my salad...and my sandwich is upside down.

The Boys are Back

Back in the 5th grade (1989) I was head over in heels with a boy named Joey.

Joey McIntyre.

Sure, Jordan was cute, but he was little mature for my taste. Donnie was too much of a bad boy (not that he wasn't super cute), and Jonathan and Danny didn't do it for me. But if you put them all together it was pure magic lead by the cutest boy in the world. Joey McIntyre.

For about 2 years it all New Kids on the Block non-stop - dance routines in the backyard, cassette tapes on repeat during long car rides, and trading NKOTB cards during home room. I even liked a boy in my reading class because he wore an NKOTB t-shirt.

I got off the NKTOB train just as their fame started to fade and never really looked back. That is, until I saw their new video for Summertime. New Kids are back and I have never been happier!

Minnesota Here I Come!

I'm going to visit my sister in the Twin Cities next week so if anyone has reccomendations for bars, stores, restaurants, outdoor activities please let me know! She just moved there in June and has been working 24/7 (she just graduated from Tufts Veterinary School and is doing an internship at the university) so it will be a good chance for both of us to explore the city.
